Fulkerson Family Tree

Our Family History

Robert ‘Bob’ Craig Fulkerson

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

The oldest of four children, Bob was born November 24, 1950, to Robert and Margaret (Ferris) Fulkerson in the Naval Hospital at St. Albans in the borough of Queens, Long Island, New York, only 14 miles away from where the founder of the Fulkerson Family, Dirck Volckertszen (De Noorman), settled in Green Point in Dutch New Amsterdam sometime before 1630. Bob joined the army in 1970 and served as an X-ray technician in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was honorably discharged in 1973 and went on to study at West Valley College, and California State in Hayward and San Jose.

Bob lived in many places and worked many vocations. Some of the places he lived includes northern California, southern Illinois, New York City, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. Bob was employed at the V.A. Hospital in Mountain View, California for several years before he left the Bay Area to pursue his goal of becoming Chief of Medical Administration. His work with the V.A. took him to California, Oregon, Illinois, Oklahoma, and finally Wyoming where he achieved his desired position. He then served as a V.A.E.E.O specialist and investigator. Bob retired from the V.A. after 24 years of outstanding service. He was also an internet developer with Adventure Connection Travel and American Cowboy Magazine, installed sprinklers, worked as a landscaper and did kitchen installation. At age 50, Bob began doing electrical work an entered into an electrician apprenticeship program. At the age of 56 he became a licensed journeyman electrician, graduating at the top of his class. After living in Sheridan, Wyoming for 18 years, he and his wife moved to West Jordan, Utah.

Bob’s family heritage was of such interest and importance that he endeavored to learn as much as possible about far-reaching ancestry. Beginning in 1995, Bob learned that there was a Fulkerson family history, but found it was in small pieces scattered across the country. He began contacting distant family cousins, and with the help of more than 500 cousins, he built this site to gather, research and organize the family history in one place where you could easily find it. In doing so he devoted countless hours of research, gathered and vetted myriad of information, contacted and met numerous relatives online. The subsequent result of all of this was a comprehensive development of the award laden Fulkerson Family website launched more than 16 years ago. With his knowledge, patience and persistence he has built a truly phenomenal and extensive website for all of us to enjoy, immerse ourselves in, and pass along to generations to come.

Sadly, on June 12, 2012, Bob Fulkerson passed away after a courageous eight-month battle from acute myeloid leukemia. On October 19, 1980, Bob married the love of his life, Janice Lynn Turner Fulkerson. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Friends referred to Bob as a walking encyclopedia. Bob was laid to rest in an ancestral family plot near the Fulkerson Winery in Dundee, New York, overlooking Seneca Lake just a few hundred yards west of the Fulkerson Winery, on the land our ancestor once owned and has remained in the Fulkerson family to this day.
